Great Multi-tool. I like the low-profile design and that it is all-metal. Ever piece is the exact size that I needed, and the 4mm hex wrench alone can fix about half the parts on my mountain bike. I really appreciate the chain tool and the integrated sizes of spoke wrenches. The whole design is ingenious. This tool manages to fit four tools where each separately would be huge and cost about half the price of this overall tool. I understand it may be a pain having to use the smaller profile of these tools, but the parts that need these tools on the bike only occasionally need to be adjusted and therefore it is not worth owning the more "serious" versions.I have used the chain tool on numerous occasions. It can take a little getting used to, but it saved me on a ride when my power link (sram chain) fell off and my chain went rogue. I found the chain, but not the tiny extra link, so I removed a link from the chain and reconnected it the old-fashioned way (without a detachable link). It kept me riding, and I was able to buy a new power link after the ride and reconfigure the chain. Without this tool, I would have had to walk my bike home that day, which would have been pitiful seeing as it was the beginning of my ride. I can only imagine if this was at the top of a mountain on a long ride...it would kill the experience.I have had to adjust derailleurs, handlebar stem and the saddle on separate rides. With a mutli-tool, you can tine-tune your bike on the fly and figure out the best configuration for the terrain you are riding on. I used to go ghetto and carry a bunch of individual allan wrenches that were connected with a piece of plastic. Most of those sizes you don't need, and this tool has the screwdriver and chain tool which are the next most valuable tools. It is truly a life saver and Topeak got it right with this one, which they usually do since they are a good company. I feel anything extra would be a waste of unnecessary tools.-KenAuthor, "How to Get a Job in Video Games"I'll admit it: when I opened the box, I was astonished at how small this multi-tool is. Hey, I asked for light, right? And then I picked it up, and I knew all was well. This tool is really solid and well-built. The chain breaker is excellent quality and easy to use, and the chain hook is really handy for trailside repairs. The tool body itself is comfortable in the hand, and burly; one of the first things I tried upon receiving this was to take the 5mm allen key and loosen/retighten my stem bolts, easily one of the tightest bolts on my mountain bike, and it worked just fine. The neoprene pouch is a nice touch to keep it from eating through your Camelbak's pockets. I don't know what I am ever going to use an aluminum tire tool for, but I carry plastic tire tools on the trail anyway and those weigh practically nothing. I also don't know why every tool on the planet needs to have a freaking bottle opener, but at least there is a spoke holder included with it; the spoke wrenches are on the body of the chain breaker, which detaches from the tool itself for use. Honestly, every feature here has been meticulously thought out and executed.I read a lot of reviews for multi-tools before choosing one, and this was literally the only one I found without any negative reviews. In fact, of the 17 reviewers before me, every single person gave it five stars. Well, let me go ahead and make it 18 -- this is a great value and a must-have for any mountain biker. It's not going to replace a tool chest of large, professional tools... but you're not carrying your tool chest on your bike, either. Please note: while Topeak's site lists a Torx 10 and 25, as of 2012-11-27 this tool does not include a Torx 10. That's of no concern to me -- my brake calipers and adjuster wheels take a 25 -- but worth noting if your bike requires this tool. This tool is very well-made - you can feel the quality. It's also incredibly small - 1.5 inches wide and just under 3 inches long, smaller than a credit card, and about a half inch thick. The weight is 153gm or 5.4 ounces.I always carry a multi tool when I ride, I even took my bike completely apart, cleaned it and put it back together using my little 8-function tool. But it's really old and has 8 tools. This one weighs only a few grams more than my old one, and has 20 tools, including a chain tool. I never thought I needed a chain tool until I was on a group ride in the country, not close to a bike shop, and one of the group had his chain break. He fixed his chain and was back on the road in no time at all.I haven't used the chain tool on the road yet, but the guys at my LBS gave me an old piece of chain to play with. It's not quite as easy as the Youtube videos make it look, I wished I had longer piece to hold on to for more leverage, but I feel confident I can repair my chain on the road if it should break. The one thing I can't figure out on this tool is the tire lever - to me it is a useless addition to an otherwise perfect tool - it's got to be heavy, it's made of metal, and could damage a rim. I would recommend carrying plastic levers, don't rely on this metal one.Nice product and easy to carry.I had this multitool since last year and prior to this, I had the Alien which was just too heavy and bulky and just not practical for everyday rides. Likes: the size, the sleeve and strength, capable chain breaker with a hook and spoke wrenches, the dislike: the unnecessary thing that looks like a tire lever? the chain hook that keep popping off (I used a narrow strip of electrical tape to taped it to the entire chain tool) and the screw holding the entire chain tool to the multitool itself keeps loosening off. Last and minor grip is it's not easy to pull up the allen drivers and especially when you're wearing gloves. Regardless, i'll be having these MT with me on every ride together with my Leatherman Signal because of it's Pros rather than it's Cons.Firstly, let me say, this multi tool looks incredible! Sounds odd to focus on the aesthetics of a multi tool, but it really is a thing of beauty! The finish is high end - more so than any pictures could show.I bought this multi tool to replace one that was gifted to me from a friend when I started cycling, in comparison, it is a lot smaller and lighter - which is a good thing! It slips in my bag a lot easier due to its size, and is nearly 90g lighter (80g with the neoprene case), and as you know lighter make the ride easier!! This will also easily fit into a pocket due to its small size.I opted for the gold version as opposed to the black version, as it’s easier to locate when I need it, and if you’re stressing with a repair on a trail, or on the road, having an easy to locate multi tool takes a small bit of stress away.Onto the actual tools, it features 23 ‘tools’ ranging from things you’d normally see on multi tools such as a variety of hex keys (including a 3mm one on the removable chain tool to perform maintenance on the main body of the tool itself i.e. if the tools are too tight or too loose when trying to open them up, or if you need to lubricate and clean the tool, with this small foldable hex key, it means you don’t have to find another 3mm hex key as everything is already here - very clever design indeed!!), Philips and flat head screwdrivers, t25 & t10 torx screwdrivers, as well as a variety of spoke keys to tighten your spokes (I don’t even have one of these in my workshop, so this is a welcome bonus for a multi tool!).Not a unique feature, but it isn’t found on every multi tool you’ll come across, but this multi tool features a small (almost paper clip like) metal wire which is used to hold your chain in place whilst you repair it (otherwise known as a chain keeper) - much easier than getting a mate to hold it or a random stranger if you’re out on a solo ride and your chain malfunctions.Only after reading the instructions did I notice that the 10mm hex key is actually a cover and if you pop it off there’s an 8mm hex key underneath! After seeing the 8mm hex the side of the box and failing to see it, I thought I had been shortchanged, but is a great space saving idea!!With multi tools, the danger is if you buy cheap, this could cost more in the long run, I’d recommend spending a little more on a higher quality tool such as this one, rather than get a cheaper quality one that could damage the screws and bolts in your bike - resulting in more damage and a higher repair bill. One of the only issues with this multi tool is the the tyre lever is much too small, and too unforgiving as it’s made of metal - you don’t want this anywhere near carbon rims, and you’d be much better off using some larger plastic tyre levers instead. What would be really great here instead of a tyre lever, would be a really small knife, just in case you’re out on the trail and you’ve forgotten your dinner, so it would make hunting for your food a little easier - or for emergency use.Obviously with a multi tool, if it’s small and easily storable that’s great, but you can’t make it too small as you need to be able to use it effectively, if you remember GCSE physics this is where levers come into play. For me, the size is fine and gives adequate levers for my strength to tighten/loosen screws - for someone who may not have the strength I posses it could become a little difficult due to the shorter levers! Although, don’t worry, I’m more Joe Average than Hercules so it won’t apply to many people - and if you’re able to get out on your bike, I’m sure you will be able to muster more than enough strength to use this tool to the best of its ability!Potentially the best thing about this tool? After you’ve finished your ride, and you’ve just settled down to quench your thirst with a well earned beer or two - who wants a trip to the kitchen to get a bottle opener, or if you run into a disaster whereby your bartender has forgotten his bottle opener, you’ve got one on here - so sit back, relax and even if you’ve not had to use this to work on your bike, you may as well use it to open that sweet, refreshing nectar - although it goes without saying, drink responsibly!I ride both off and on-road almost every day. I always try and have a multitool with me. This is still my go to choice. I've got lots of other tools that are worth more, have different styles and tools, but this is irreplaceable in my use. It's small enough to slide into any pocket, the selection of tools is ideal for what I do, and the gold version is so garish that I'll never lose it.The reason I've left a 4 star review instead of 5 is that the tools do work themselves loose over time which is a pain. There is no perfect balance between too tight to open, and so loose it unfolds in your pocket in my experience. Has a tiny hex head to adjust the tightness on the spoke key, but you do end up having to re-tighten things every 10-15 uses. This tool comes with a small stretch case and it can be squeezed into a small saddle bag quite easily. Its has all the tools that you would need but my main concern is that the screw driver and allen keys flip up but dont lock in place so when you are tightening or loosing a a screw/bolt the piece you using is folding back and forth which is really annoying when you are on the side of the road and trying to adjust something.Playing around with the tool i found that slightly lifting the chain brake made the some of the tools slightly stiffer when extended.... but not by much.Have this across 3 bikes now in all their saddle bagsThe most compact fully loaded multi tool there is.Other tools have similar functions but no one else has managed to get it into one tidy little tool like this.I have bought and returned most of the multitool on the market to get the one I liked the most, so come at this with an informed opinion. The crankbros tool is also good, but it’s massive. This one fits in the palm of the handHave used the chain breaker a few times and works impeccablyAll other functions work well Including the spoke tool functionNothing to dislike. BRILLIANT TOOL. This is great quality and should allow me to fix or tighten anything on my MTB whilst on the trails. Has all the sizes you need. I've wrapped the tool in a thin food bag, put it inside the supplied neoprene pouch, then fastened it under my bottle cage with rubber straps made from old inner tubes.
